since I'm still working on my dynamite for Gokudera's Vongola Gear... 75 pieces of PVC pipe cut so far out of approximately 160 ^^''... and started to wrap them in packing paper I thought I could show you how I actually make my dynamite^^. Nearly every Gokudera cosplayer uses different materials anyway xD. Have already read or heard about coinrolls, candles, real fireworks, paper or wood... But as already said I prefer PVC pipe and packing paper ;).
That's what they look like ;).
I’m not sure if this is just another one of these needless tutorials but I like my bombs for Gokudera, regard them as quite convincing and maybe this could actually help someone out there ;)
How to make Gokudera’s Rocket bombs or his normal bombs:
1. Preparations:
Get yourself a long PVC pipe with the diameter of your choice. Just try what feels comfortable in your hands ;). Also prepare packing paper, parcel string , a darkbrown foam craft sheet, orange paper, glue of your choice.
As for tools: A broad needle, at least a handsaw (or something more improved ;)), rasp, ruler, pencil, scissors, black marker or PC and printer.
For the Rocket Bombs you need additionally: Broader pipes that have just a slightly greater diameter than your basic pipes and silver colour of your choice.
Basic construction (omg how that sounds^^’’):
2. Decide on the length your dynamite should have (in my case about 11-12 cm), measure and mark the pipe and cut the parts with the saw. If you just own a handsaw like me you might have to do a lot of rasping to make the ends smooth and straight. I’d recommend a little rasping in any case though.
3. Afterwards cut the packing paper into pieces that are a little longer than your pipes and fit around one pipe more than once. Wrap the packing paper around your bomb-to-be and glue it onto it. Cut the paper at the ends if it is much too long, wrap the bomb into it: In other words fold it inwards.
4. Prepare the 2 caps of each bomb by cutting fitting circles out of the rubber foam. Put them into the pipe and test if they fit. If they do, glue one into the pipe.
Now thread the parcel string through the other cap of rubber foam, knot it and cut it at the length you prefer and glue this cap into the pipe as well.
5. The labels can be prepared differently. But I chose to design them via “Paint” and “Word”. They consist of a triangle, the word “Dunamis” (not dynamite!) and in the anime version a 7-digit, in the manga possibly a 9-digit number although I’m not thaat sure about the latter. In my case I just printed them on orange paper and cut them out since it looks more neat than a hand drawn version. But hand drawing is also possible of course. Either way glue your labels on the bombs.
So much for the generic “Bombs”. His “Mini bombs” are similar just use a smaller pipe ;).
The bombs for Vongola Gear I am currently making are just shorter than his normal bombs (would look ridiculous with the two belts over your chest otherwise ^^''), in my case approximately 9 cm long. And they have neither a fuse nor a label! Otherwise they are identical to the others.
These are the minibombs besides. They have a label too, but no letters on it. ;)
6. Rocket Bombs:
To upgrade your bombs to “Rocket Bombs” you just have to cut the broader pipe into small rings of a little more than 1 cm in width. Same procedure as with the basic pipes for the bombs xD just that you need two rings to make one “Rocket bomb”. After the cutting and rasping, use your colour of choice to paint them silver. If you want to be really exact you can also add small dots on the rings using paint with 3-D effect.
When the colour has dried just put the rings on the ends of your bombs and finished. :) (I didn’t use glue for that but you might need it.)
The advantage of this version: It looks very natural and you can actually throw the bombs and control their flight to some degree. If you aren’t going for a yamamoto-home-run xD they should even survive some pitches.^^ Another advantage is their light weight and that they don’t hurt that much if someone is hit by them.
Disadvantages: Rather laborious to make and maybe not the cheapest version out there. Plus they aren't completely waterproof. (But I don't think there even is a way to make them waterproof and his original bombs shouldn't be either... It's dynamite after, we are talking about.)
The parts that disintegrate first are the rubber foam caps. But they can easily be glued another time and in my case the silver colour chipped of -.-, have to look for a different paint that sticks to PVC.
So much about making dynamite xD.
My next blog will maybe contain a link to a cosplay-vid (when I finally dare to watch it xD) and show some confeeling^^ since this weekend is Dokomi in Duesseldorf and we have a KH Reborn! TYL group of about 50 ppl at one day and the other we cosplay Prima Famiglia together with Decima and some Arcobalenos ;). Really looking forward to it although most likely I'll be cooked in my suit at the current temperature (20-26°C).
