In this case my Aninite plans got totally jumbled and were puzzled together in an entirely new way. The result: I now ended up with 2 new cosplays instead of 1, I want to finish in about a month namely Zuko in his beach version from Avatar - The last Airbender and Hibiki Ryoga from Ranma 1/2. The first thanks to my "bro" in cosplay eph_eph@animexx.de (Ty Lee), the second due to jio@animexx.de (Ranma disguised as Ryoga's sister) who was the only one who was still considering sticking to the plan. Luckily the third cosplay is Rin Okumura and was already finished some years ago.
OK so..
I decided to rather do a preview again in order to show Cynthia who provided me kindly with patterns for both and advice how to alter these and my "bro" who might also like to see a summ up of my progress concerning Zuko.
So far the beginning went well. I was able to sew trousers slowly after an old pattern of mine (unfortunately not the most recent and best version cause I didn't find that one). -> Provided me with a little more fun at altering the shape of the crotch and I'm still not sure what is back and what is front xD. Going to improve that.
The rest was easy. Just had to decide on the lenght (just ending over my knees) and put in some elastic band. I decided that it should fit loosly there as it doesn't seem to fit 100% tight in the original and doesn't add folds. Then I just fold it once to hide the band and é voila finished. But that's the part of the cosplay you see the least anyway...
Afterwards thanks to this Burda pattern for a top/dress I was able to sew asap and ended up with a nice dress xD. The colour looks kinda neat in fact :).
Still not what I really wanted to have so I tried to adjust it a little just with pins and a band and it already looked much closer xD.
Now I'm figuring how to applique as I've never done that by now and unfortunately round shapes seem to be a little more tricky to make without the fabric getting wavy. Plus I noticed too late that my basic fabric is a bit stretchy which could add to the problem. But fortunately at least the seems lie mostly in a direction where it is not.
Still... my good old sewing machine is making strange stuff lately so I'm rather going to try to sew the rest with my new one at my family in just one weekend ^^''. Plz cross thumbs for me that I will have enough time for this and also to sew another pair of trousers for Mythodea. :) The Conquest of Mythodea is a Larp convention in Germany I have attended for the last two years now. I haven't sewn much for it as I'm so busy with cosplay and it isn't entirely neccessary but... I have that idea in mind I want to realize.
-------
So, as I didn't find a picture of my larp character I postponed the release of this entry and can add a bit more new progress now.
I added Zuko's lining at the sleeves. For this I just cut bands (about 5cm in width) folded and ironed them (2x 1cm seam allowance and 2x 1,5 cm width), sewed these onto the front side with the sewing machine and sewed the inner side by hand.
Afterwards I cut the band for the back collar just in its shape twice, sewed both parts together, ironed the seam allowance and sewed it by hand onto the "shirt".
When cutting these, I noticed there was a little piece of spare fabric in between and I tried out appliquéing for the first time. (Ok, already practised with other fabric and tried if it would work for the basic read fabric.)
For appliquéing Cynthia advised me to use a zigzag-stitch (with a small stitch length) and afterwards I just cut it out very close to the stitching.
Now I just need to sew these three pieces onto the "shirt", adjust the collar in front and add more straight band to it. I also sewed the belt out of fabric. Just need to make for that part the "brooch"-like thing in front and another piece I want to make out of fauxleather which I also need to appliqué. Hopefully I get finished after Mythodea as I still have one free day.
Oh and besides also sewed these blue trousers I wanted to have :).
Back to Munich I will continue work on Ryoga asap. Only have altered the pattern and prepared the fabric yet. So stay tuned :). I really wonder if I get finished till Aninite in late August. But I try my best.
