A Tale of feet, hands and a tail

So, welcome back to Freya part 3, I think.
This time I want to show you how Hikita@animexx or as she prefers Bofur_the_greatest@instagram made those awesome feet, how I nearly fell into despair and how I spent a saturday evening as everyone one of course would choose, painting something with acrlyics xD. And of course also the tale of the tail will be unveiled. And yes, I've got more time to play with words and to write in a more accurate English again ^^.

First of all: The materials of the Feet and socks!

So yes, we used a pair of quite cheap white cotton shoes. Hikita then shaped the claws out of worbla rests and cut the toes out of the foam which was originally sold for filling a pillow. After the work of just one single evening one foot was readily glued together.

On the next saturday, after the last session of extensive cosplay shopping (got the magnet buttons eg.) I was somehow so tired that I just wanted to do something simple and started out of a whim to paint the shoes and the simple white gloves, Cynthia provided me with when the velour leather ones I ordered online turned out to be too dark, (I don't have a picture of) with light grey acrylics matching the fake velour leather shown above.

For the shoes in the end this procedure turned out to be rather useless as the overknees were perfectly attached to them in the end and nothing except the toes sticked out. But for the hands it was the right choice.

Another evening later the pair of feet was half way finished. It just had to be covered with fake velour leather and the Velcro had to be attached to shoes and overknees respectively.
Here you see a picture of a covered foot. The velour was also glued using hot glue as all the other parts of the feet before.

Meanwhile I was very lucky that I already happened to have a spare pair of long, pointy nails I originally had used when my dragon claw for Kija hadn't been ready yet. But as the latex hand is much more comfortable and neat than covering my hand in white water colour and gluing the fingernails onto it, they had no more use. So I recycled them happily for Freya's hands xD, just had to make another set for my left hand as well. Cut them out of transparent worbla again and used the haidryer to heat them into shape.
In the beginning I just painted them underneath. But as soon as the toes were finished I saw that they didn't match them well anymore... So I took the brave step to also paint the upper side which had a nice effect as the lower side was still a bit visible and I really liked the grey scale gradient. Also on top the colour of course sticks better to the worbla o.O.

In the end the nails were covered by varnish on both sides and glued onto the gloves using leather glue. Well, they didn't stick perfectly well, but at Connichi the great guys at the cosplay repair station glued some back on using patex :). Guess I will use that one more often in the future as well ^-^. Or I might revert to two component stuff I used lately gluing various pieces on a PHD hat at work :).
But back to the topic ^^''.

So the hands and feet were nearly finished. Only the Velcro was glued in place at the lower rim of the shoes and in the upper middle, just where the velour cover ended. On the other side I hand sewed the not sticky part for washing reasons inside the overknees which had been cut open at the bottom. Maybe I can show you this when I'm back in Munich and able to take some more pictures. ^^'' It's a bit difficult to tell without.

Anyway one animal part is still missing: The tail!
For the tail I measured it's approximate length and twisted some aluminium wire with a bit of excess length 4 times (thickness:added soon ^^''). (Don't underestimate this.... I got me 3 blisters during the process and it took much longer due to my not so greatly developed strength xD.)
Afterwards I sewed a cover/hose out of the fake velours as well which slightly tapered till it reached the top. The important thing is that the end didn't have a pointy but rather round shape and wasn't tooo thin. Otherwise turning it inside out would have been something between impossible and pure hell. The next step was inserting the wire and filling the bulk with fiberfill I still had rests of from my plushy making sessions.
The lower end was then sewn shut and the wire attached to a hidden belt sitting right above/on my butt.

And who knows what was still missing? :)
Yes, that one detail I really loved: The ribbon :) made out of rest fabric from the trousers / sleeves. Happened to be also the detail I used to really fervently point out that she's a girl afterall xD.

So, Cu very soon. Going to add something about all the fastening stuff of the cosplay in the next entry which will also deal with the belts.
