took me quite some time again cause of the Bookfair and quite some other stuff. Plus I guess I really need a cosplay working break. Nonetheless I want to finish this series about Freya and maybe add something else I tried out for the bookfair.
First of all I wanted to show the different fastening methodes I used for her:
1. Magnet buttons
As already said I used them for the wings and the visor. They were put into place through holes in fabric and worbla or by sewing another layer of leather to the hat or put trough worbla holes before these were heated onto the backsides of the wings. There had to be two buttons in case of the wings or the wings would have spun around instead of sticking up as they should.
The magnet buttons are really great for parts which should be fastened and taken apart during transport. They stick well together but come apart when falling. But instead of breaking in this case the parts can be easily puzzled together again. So I really recommend these for head pieces or other stuff which is not touched that often.
2. Velcro
As also already said I used Velcro to attach the overknees to the shoes. It works quite well and didn't come off at all for the whole day except when I wanted it to. The only thing: The hot glue and the Velcro came off partly of one shoe when I got out of the costume, But this should be easy to fix. In case of the overknee part it was sewn in. Which took quite some time and I had to try very often to make sure it would sit well on the shoe. I'm not sure though when I would advice to use Velcro... it depends on which kind of fabric you use and where I think.
3. Elastic band
I have to say these parts of the cosplay on their own look really weird and I didn't want to keep it from you xD. So, yes everything underneath was a bit faked xD. I really wasn't in the mood for sewing a shirt noone would see at all. So I just faked the sleeves and attached them to my upper arm using elastic band. Same goes for the trousers at waist and knees cause it was the quickest way. Also was thinking of adding band at the knees for this but... I was soo out of time that I opted for the fastest way. Besides in this position the sleeves hardly move but stay in place, trousers likewise.
3. Sewing place
Well ... here you get an even more weird look of the belt system xD. Acutally one evening before travelling or two? I was still sewing them pheww and asking a friend via Whatsapp what she thought of their position. This was really something as I always had to get inside and out and I always got lost and didn't get how I should attach them when I was wearing the coat instead of my pyjama xD. But in the end I succeeded and was able to sew the leather belts like that using my new sewing machine :) and also to sew on the flag. The buttons were sewn on while travelling to the con via train and the shoulder pieces were sewn on just before slipping in. Guess I will always have to redo this for transport reasons and often figure how to get in anew ^^'''. Still I really like the outcome. Just want to fix it to my shoulders now using a press button cause at the con the leather always slipped down cause of the smooth pleather underneath.
This is all I can tell you by now. But although I already wore the costume, it's still not finished. There are these decorations of the overknees still missing which I'm soon going to add and are to be fastened using safety pins. And the weapon's still missing as well. Anyway I don't want to finish without showing my very favourite photo up till now from Connichi taken by Leih-a-Yari@animexx.de.
I really like it cause it reminds me of a certain city in Final Fantasy IX: Treno :). Didn't remember that one at all and it's magic that it really turned out nice cause it was so dark already xD.
As already said going to improve this. Also the scarf and hopefully the collar. But nonetheless I'm really happy with this first try and that the cosplay survived it so far :).
